  元器件交易网讯 5月23日消息,据外媒报道,思科已经确认,首席科学家戴维·埃文斯(Dave Evans)将离职。

  埃文斯拥有24年从业经验,将加入一家位于硅谷的网络设备供应商。在LinkedIn上埃文斯写道,他现在是硅谷一家初创公司的联合创始人兼首席技术官(CTO),但并没有透露公司的名字及其他信息。

  思科发言人确认:“戴维·埃文斯将离开思科寻求新的创业机会,我们感到十分遗憾。”

  Big Silicon Valley companies have longserved as springboards for entrepreneurs, and Cisco SystemsCSCO -0.41% is noexception. Chief futurist Dave Evans is the latest to try his hand at a newopportunity.

  Evans, a 24-year veteran who joined asemployee 398 of the network-equipment vendor, says on his LinkedIn page that heis now co-founder and chief technology officer of “a Silicon Valley stealthstart-up.” He didn’t disclose its name or plans.

  “I can confirm that Dave Evans is leaving the company to pursue a newentrepreneurial opportunity,” a Cisco spokesman said. “We are sorry to see himgo.”

  Evans is regarded as one of the Ciscoexecutives who helped signal the importance of a technology movement called theInternet of Things, which the company describes with an even broader term, theInternet of Everything. CEO John Chambers has become one of the biggest publicproponents of the concept, which refers to embedding computing andcommunications capability in most everyday devices.

  He is the second departure reported thismonth among Cisco executives associated with such efforts. The other is GuidoJouret, who was the vice president and general manager of the Internet ofThings business unit.

  Jouret, who spent 20 years at Cisco, didn’tinitially disclose his next career move. But late Wednesday the Chinese solar-and wind-power company Envision Energy announced that it had named Jouret asthe president of a new global digital innovation lab in Silicon Valley.

  In a letter, Jouret said he was moved bythe opportunity to help address issues affecting the future of life on theplanet.

  “By 2030, the world will need 40% more energy and 50% of people willstruggle to find clean, fresh sources of drinking water. Half the ground waterin China is unsafe to drink. Sadly, the list goes on. We need more innovationfocused on solving these problems.”

  Jouret said that besides directingEnvision’s Silicon Valley lab, he will oversee a $100 million investment fund,drive technology strategy and make acquisitions.
