t’s been quite a while since we’ve last mentioned BlackBerry, but thankfully the company is still alive and kicking, and based on the recent reports, BB is planning on delivering a handful of new devices to the market.

How do we know this? Well, simply put, earlier today BlackBerry held an event in Jakarta, Indonesia, where the Canadian company has lifted the veil on a new low-end smartphone which is currently an Indonesian exclusive. During the event, executive chairman and chief executive of BlackBerry – John S. Chen – has discussed several aspects regarding BlackBerry’s future plans, including ones surrounding the officially announced Z3, as well as a handful of other new devices. You’ll find the full story below.

BlackBerry Working On Several New Devices, Not Interested In Wearables

BlackBerry Working on Several New Devices

As mentioned above, BlackBerry has just made the budget-friend Z3 available in Indonesia, where the company in question intends to retail the device at the price of 2.2 million rupiah (or roughly $190). Interestingly enough, BB has also prepared a limited edition Z3 with “Jakarta Edition” engraved on the back panel. Only 25,000 units will be produced, and while Chen intends on expanding the Z3′s reaches in Asia and South Africa, the Jakarta Edition will remain bound to its homeland.

In any case, the interesting part for us living outside of Indonesia, is that Chen has also revealed a few more interesting details regarding the future BlackBerry line-up. According to these fresh reports, the company is working on several new devices, boasting full-touch as well as physical keyboards. At least one of those reportedly has “flagship material”. Unfortunately, BlackBerry’s CEO intends on keeping the details about these smartphones secret for now, so I guess we’ll have to wait a bit more before learning about what makes them tick.

John Chen has also mentioned that, while most smartphone manufacturers are joining the fight for wearables, BlackBerry has no such intentions. According to his sayings, BB doesn’t have any plans (now or in the near future) to release smartwatches, smartglasses or laptops and tablets. At this point, the company focuses mostly on the mobile consumer market.

During the event, Chen has also emphasized that the low-cost BlackBerry Z3 is not a final push for the company to remain relevant. He said that BlackBerry is financially stable, and has new technologies in store for us – whatever that may imply. He also added that part of his job is to make BlackBerry brand cool again, and that once people will stop concerning about Blackberry as a company, the products will be cool once more.

Either way, the BlackBerry Z3 will hit the shelves on May 15, and features a 5 inch display with a resolution of 540 x 940, a Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and a 5 MP main camera complemented by a 1.1 MP front-facing shooter. The device runs on BB 10 OS – version 10.2.2 to be more specific.

Would any of you be interested in the Z3? If not, then are you excited about the aforementioned, mysterious several new devices? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
