As you’ve probably read numerous times before, the Chinese mobile market is a very important playfield for tech giants across the world. Whoever holds the biggest market share in China also owns a pretty big chunk of the global mobile market. That being said, all the world-renowned smartphone manufacturers are battling for supremacy in that region, including Apple, Samsung, and of course a handful of emerging local smartphone makers such as Huawei, ZTE, so on and so forth.

Now, the interesting story begins with Apple losing some ground in the Chinese market share, while being outscored (surprisingly enough) by none other than Xiaomi Tech. More details after the break.

Xiaomi Beats Apple for the 3rd Place in China

According to recent data reported by the Korean media, the first quarter has been a very interesting one for the Chinese mobile market. According to Counterpoint Technology Market Research, in Q1 2014, Xiaomi managed to overtake Apple in the battle for market supremacy in China. Xiaomi became the number 3 most influential smartphone manufacturer in the region, owning 11 % of the market share. On the other hand, Apple’s market share clocked in at only 10%.

Aside from that, Samsung maintains the lead with 18% of the market-share, followed by Lenovo with 12%. Huawei has also managed to get its shadow over 8%, followed by ZTE and Oppo, with 6% and 3% respectively.

At first glance, it might come as a surprise that Xiaomi has became such an influential smartphone maker, but let’s not forget the tremendous success enjoyed by the Red Rice / Redmi / Hongmi series. Decent hardware at a dirt cheap price? It’s quite difficult to beat that, especially given the fact that Xiaomi is playing the game in its homeland.
