元器件交易网讯 4月22日消息，据外媒报道，电信巨头AT&T宣布将在21个城市及其郊区覆盖千兆网络（GigaPower）。

　　AT&T自然不会对谷歌光纤扩张计划置之不理。在AT&T的计划中有与谷歌潜在的竞争，两家公司都将目光放在亚特兰大、圣安东尼奥、圣何塞这样的重点城市。同时AT&T还有其他动作——进军芝加哥、洛杉矶等未在谷歌计划中出现的枢纽城市。

　　AT&T isn't letting Google Fiber'sexpansion plans go unanswered. The telecom giant has announced that it'slooking at bringing its GigaPower internet service to as many as 21 additionalbig cities and their nearby municipalities. There's some potential for directcompetition with Google, as both companies are looking into gigabit access forkey urban areas like Atlanta, San Antonio and San Jose. However, it's clearthat AT&T is taking some initiative here -- it's also exploring rollouts inChicago, Los Angeles and other hubs that aren't currently on its rival'sroadmap.

　　With that said, don't start planning a 4Kinternet video marathon just yet. Like Google, AT&T still wants to discussits intentions with community leaders. The carrier won't launch in a given areaunless it sees that there's enough demand, network infrastructure and"receptive policies," so there's a chance that your town won't makethe cut. Even if the expansion only reaches a few cities, though, it's stillgood news for Americans who've been demanding better data speeds and morecompetition for years.
