Handset supply chains are seeing increased orders from Motorola for entry-level smartphones that will be aimed for sale in emerging markets, according to industry sources.
Motorola is expected to tackle emerging markets, namely in South and Central America, where the company has close relations with telecom operators, the sources said, adding that the relations will also help in allowing pricing for the devices to be pushed down.
The sources said Motorola still believes there is a market for smaller-size entry-level smartphones despite the increase in demand for larger-size high-end units in other markets.
Motorola is also expected to see investments from other players in the market, which, coupled with the company's strategies, should allow it to sell well over one million of the smartphones in 2014, the sources noted.
